日本政府の対応「愚かで無謀」“It’s like an authoritarian state” - US conservative magazine publishes commentary on request for dissolution of the former Unification Church

米保守系誌アメリカン・スペクテーター（電子版）は６日、日本政府が世界平和統一家庭連合（旧統一教会）の解散命令請求を行ったことについて、「権威主義国家が日常的に行うようなことだ」と批判し、日本政府が信教の自由を侵害していることに警鐘を鳴らす論評を掲載した。
論評を執筆したのは、大手シンクタンク「ケイトー研究所」のダグ・バンドウ上級研究員。レーガン元大統領の特別補佐官を務め、現在は保守派の論客として有力メディアに寄稿しているほか、国際的な信教の自由擁護にも積極的に取り組んでいる。
バンドウ氏は、日本政府の解散命令請求について、「他の教会に対しても使用できる法的武器を生み出すことになる」と警告。「教会を解散させるという前例は恐ろしい。次のターゲットは創価学会ではないか、という意見もある」と述べ、他の宗教組織に対しても弾圧の道が開かれたとの見方を示した。
また、「与党自民党は不人気な首相を抱え、世論調査結果も芳しくないため、旧統一教会をスケープゴートにすることにした」と、解散請求は政治的動機に基づくものだと強調。日本政府の対応は「愚かであり、無謀でさえある」と厳しく非難した。
その上で、バンドウ氏は「日本はサウジアラビアでも中国でもない。だが、旧統一教会を解散させようとする試みは不当だ。信仰という根本的な問題に対して政府の役割を大幅に拡大し、恥知らずな政治目的のためにそうしている」と主張した。

The commentary was written by Doug Bandow, a senior researcher at the Cato Institute, a major think tank. He served as a special assistant to former President Ronald Reagan, and currently writes for leading media outlets as a conservative commentator, as well as actively working to defend international religious freedom.
Bando warned that the Japanese government's request for a dissolution order would "create a legal weapon that can be used against other churches." He said, ``The precedent of disbanding the church is frightening. Some say that the next target may be Soka Gakkai.'' He expressed the view that this has opened the door for suppression of other religious organizations as well. .
He also emphasized that the request for dissolution was politically motivated, saying, ``The ruling Liberal Democratic Party has an unpopular prime minister and the poll results are not good, so they decided to use the former Unification Church as a scapegoat.'' He harshly criticized the Japanese government's response, which he called "stupid and even reckless."
In addition, Mr. Bando said, ``Japan is not Saudi Arabia or China. However, the attempt to dissolve the former Unification Church is unjust.'' They are doing this for shameless political purposes."
