■ Background

May 2021, when all the regions and countries were facing difficulties of educating children due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Asia Pacific Blessed Children(BC) Department hosted the first assembly for Sunday School representatives from each area, who were to report and share the situation they had. Though most of the organizations remained unclear, we started somehow moving forward by creating curriculums and teacher’s manuals. Asia Pacific BC hosted a workshop again in November 2021 for Sunday School teachers to announce the completion of curriculums, at the same time as to encourage launching virtual Sunday School at each area from new year in 2022. Being inspired and encouraged by this workshop, FilJap Sunday School also started in January 2022 after some trials in the previous year. This is how and why it started. One year has passed since then and on this occasion, we are glad to have our own Sunday School page included on “FilJap Connects.”, Filjap’s official website. Although we were sometimes desperate to continue, Asia Pacific BC department kept reminding us of the importance and the significance of this mission so that we can maintain our motivation. We feel so grateful for that and appreciate to know how deeply they are caring for all the blessed children throughout Asia Pacific region.

■ Education Content

According to educational schedules of Japan church, FilJap children started learning Divine Principle from the Creation in April to Jesus life course in last December, including some lessons of life of faith. From this January to March, we are learning about True Parents’ life courses by using audio visual materials as of last year. We will also learn about spirit world after that. At the end of every school term, we are also having some fun events including games, dances and so on to be more enjoyable. Due to the lack of teachers and staff as well as the number of children being so small, we conducted the lectures in one class from grade 1 to 6 altogether. However, since we felt that there was limitation for their good understanding of the lecture, we decided to separate classes as younger and elder classes from this year April. Fortunately, the Education Department of Japan HQ will complete its yearly curriculums and teaching materials for Sunday School children in this coming March. Therefore, we expect and try to provide better-contented education (throughout last year, most of the lecture materials were FilJap original).

■ Blog Posts

There is a chat group for parents of elementary school children where we have been sharing next month’s schedule at the end of month as well as all the lecture materials used in every Sunday School. From now on, we are going to post this monthly schedule and the lecture materials. These will be posted on Japanese blog only, but instead, we will create an article both in English and Japanese as “recent topics” together with some pictures in every few months. We hope you to enjoy seeing FilJap children learning joyfully and growing up well as God’s children.

■ About The Future

Since Pres. Masaichi Hori mentioned about Filjap community’s transition to Japanese Church, the term of our Sunday School education may not be so long. Still, we hope joyfully to continue planting the seeds for the hopeful future of our precious Blessed Children according to Heavenly Parents’ greatest wish and expectations for them, as long as it is needed. Through Sunday School education, what we experienced and learned are that educating children means you are also to be educated and guided, which is the greatest opportunity of guidance given by God. Heavenly Parent keeps giving us inspirations and love through it which surely is a graceful time and place.

■ Notice

Anyone who are interested in children’s education or would like to experience being a Sunday School staff, please contact us. Now we have two mother staffs (three from April) and a few of 2nd -gen staffs. We will be happier if we could share this grace with more people.
